About the Artist

Maarten Baas searches for the boundaries of design, always expanding in perspective and scope. Through his creation of unique pieces and continuing series, he carefully creates works that make us re-evaluate our relation to the objects and space around us. His works were nominated for the “René Smeets-award” and also for the “Melkweg-award”, leading to an invitation by IKEA to do a week-long workshop in Franc, which got Baas selected for the rewarded improvisation exposition of the Design Academy in Tokyo. A graduate of powerhouse design school Eindhoven Design Academy (Netherlands) his work is in the collections of: the Salone del Mobile (Milan); The Design Museum (London); as well as a solo-exhibition at Capone (Tokyo).
