Sylvain Rieu-Piquet was born in 1981. He lives and works in Paris. Formerly a designer, Rieu Piquet now has a vast scope of artistic activities to his name. Ceramics is his privileged medium, fitting perfectly with his fascination for organic shapes and materials. For Rieu-Piquet, the plasticity of clay is ideally suited to convey nature both at its roughest and finest. Each work encapsulates the essence of natural elements: mineral, vegetal, aquatic and animal worlds collide to produce hybrid, intense and brooding works of art. This is nature enhanced by a heightened emotional response. Though the influence is not deliberate, Rieu-Piquet’s works could be affiliated to Art Nouveau productions, with their soft, almost liquid curves and a free and sensual vision of nature.
