British artist and designer Stuart Haygarth takes quotidian, overlooked objects and transforms them into art. In Strand – the Old English and Old German word for ‘beach’ – Haygarth presents a variety of objects found on his journey across the entire length of the south English coast. After carefully sorting combs, spades, toys, and other discarded items, Haygarth took them to his studio where he arranged them by colour and type before photographing them in various compositions. These objects form a material record of his journey and, on a deeper level, offer a glimpse into the lives of those who once owned them. An explosion of colour, Strand is a beautifully curated book archiving the artist’s transformative journey across the English coast.
