EXHIBITION STATEMENT
As the world begins to emerge from a period of tremendous upheaval, rebirth and regeneration are at the forefront of everyone’s mind. It is Carpenters’ belief that engagement with art and design is of utmost importance at this juncture, and each exhibited artist is looking to a future full of potential, with renewed commitment to their artistic practices.
With methodologies grounded in innovation and a meticulous dedication to their craft, each artist continues to create materially and conceptually refined artworks. To exhibit these is a validation of the reformative power of art and design, heralding new and exciting ways of living.
Debut presentations at the fair include new works from DRIFT, Maarten Baas, Nacho Carbonell and Rick Owens, whereas pieces by Aki+Arnaud Cooren, Roger Herman and Vincenzo De Cotiis are positioned in ways that reframe their artistic practices.
Dutch artist Maarten Baas adds to his award-winning Real Time series with his Confetti Clocks, artworks that seamlessly bridge the analogue and digital worlds. In a direct riposte to the pessimism sweeping the globe, the artist has consciously chosen to immerse himself in confetti for his latest performance, the epitome of celebration and joy.
Continuing from their ground-breaking exhibition at The Shed, New York, DRIFT’s new Fragile Future light sculptures marry a dreamlike aesthetic with immense technical achievement. Suggesting paths to a brighter future, DRIFT connect life and light to form potent statements on sustainability and material culture.
Presented for the first time in the U.S., Rick Owens’ Octoplug table is a definitive example of his monolithic furniture designs, and is curatorially complemented by his site-specific Glade installation. The immersive environment maintains Owens’ ethos of enveloping people within his worldview, which amalgamates many modernist influences with his own provocative tastes. To be mentally transported is a valuable experience in these days, and Glade provides the perfect functional escape.
