The Hemisphere Ring, by Danish artist Ane Christensen, is a deep brass ring, made in a limited edition of 20 exclusively for Carpenters Workshop Jewellery.
Christensen is fascinated by metal’s range of material properties, which she explores in her Crumbling series. The face of each brass sculpture is patinated to achieve a texture often comparable to that of stone, leather, or even skin. The holes drilled vertically into the body of the piece are then plated in 18-carat gold, inserting light into each void where otherwise there would be shadow.

Ane Christensen’s metalwork explores the boundaries between functionality and sculptural form. Most of her work is the result of applying a strict set of rules through out her design and work process. She finds inspiration in the restrictive work process itself and the challenge to stretch its limitations. The starting point for all her pieces is the simple geometry of sheet metal and spun forms, which she deconstructs using techniques such as piercing, soldering and hand-forming.
