Inspired by the mysterious allure of the feline muses of Istanbul, Castro NYC proudly presents this creation called “Catmando”. Castro NYC’s founder, Terry Castro skilfully translated the captivating aura of the howling cats into this exquisite piece of jewellery. The ring is also inspired by the artistic heritage of the kingdom of Benin, paying homage to the reverence and symbolism of leopards in the region’s history and culture.
The Kingdom of Benin, located in present-day Nigeria, flourished from the 13th to 19th Century, and its artisans were celebrated for their mastery in metalworking and bronze casting. The significance of leopards in Benin’s cultural beliefs and traditions made them a common motif in various forms of art, including sculptures, masks and jewellery.
With meticulous attention to detail, the ring captures the complete harmony between two compelling forces – the menacing power of the leopard, and its moderating enigmatic beauty.
