Porcelain

This work, entitled ‘Pipe’, is Aldo’s porcelain re-imagination of the traditional drink's pourer, produced in a limited edition of 25. The curvature of the lines creates a seductive form and seamless unity between the object and viewer, with the consequential interaction manifesting the overall form, materiality and function of the pipe.

Bakker comments: “I start with appreciation of elements to create a shape – an object that emerges from the combination of elements, becomes an entity, that slowly demands and starts to inform the process of creation. I want my objects to feel at ease. If there is room for a function, it is integrated".

Artist

Aldo Bakker

Aldo Bakker, born in the Netherlands in 1971, is a designer whose objects challenge the way we perceive and interact with the material world. Known for his bowls, pitchers, stools, spoons, and tables, Bakker creates works that blur the boundary between utility and autonomy. His practice is defined by an exquisite command of form, colour, and material, combined with an almost unsettling insistence that objects are not passive commodities but independent presences with their own integrity and character.
