Eva Zeisel’s beautiful yet functional ceramic designs were at the forefront of a shift away from the colder and more formal style of design popularized by the Bauhaus and others. Her candle holder design follows the same design as her room dividers, composed of removable and individual ceramics. This shape is an echo to her interest in organic forms, soft lines, and her how household objects related to one another set her work apart. Zeisel referred to her groupings of designs as “families,” with pieces often nesting into one another.
