Studio Job for Nodus This rug is a reinterpretation of ecclesiastical stained glass window motifs and religious iconography, constructed by symmetries and repetitions- "with great respect to their history and meaning" - in a non-conventional way. According to Job Smeets, "Whether the viewer is religious or not, one can enjoy the incredible fatal and expressive drama in which they are set, immortalised in extreme inventories full of splendour. We used the icons as a metaphor to visualise and express how our ‘high cultureʼ becomes more fantastical every minute. The abstract idea is more exciting than physical reality. In many ways it is a great source of inspiration." The central aspect of 'Birth' is the Madonna and Child leitmotif. The varying design elements revolve around this central religious theme in a manner typical to Studio Job- with both old and new paired through unpredictable and novel design.
