Sylvie Auvray Les Cambuses

Les Cambuses is Sylvie Auvray's first book, somewhere between monograph and artist's book. Bringing together some hundred works, from her first paintings to her ceramics, by way of some of her jewelry and her most recent works, this volume displays the richness and singularity of a world unto itself. “Ceramicist, painter, sculptor—of bijoux, beasties, bracelet-charms and broomsticks,” Sylvie Auvray sees her work as an open corpus. Taking an overview of her works, we see a softening of the borders between the various media she uses, as though one responded to another in energetic discussion. Dialog is also the mode of expression between authors chosen for their differences in register: Anne Dressen, curator at the Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris, Franck Gautherot, director of the Consortium, and Sarah Holveck, artist and co-director of Pauline Perplexe. The three of them, showing us the artist as she is, in her own places, materials, and wanderings, offer us a wider vision of what characterizes her artistic research: perpetual motion and openness to the world, operating in such a way that everything converges in the construction of an oeuvre.
