Examining the digitally crafted works of Wendell Castle, an acclaimed figure in the American art furniture movement, this book expounds his solo exhibition at MAD, New York, offering insight into his vast oeuvre. With pieces chosen by MAD curator Ron Labaco as well as new works created using a combination of handcraftsmanship and digital technologies, this exhibition formed a dialogue between the old and the new. Reflecting on the first decade of his work, Wendell revisited his ground-breaking accomplishments through a contemporary lens, demonstrating the depth of his skill and creativity.

Wendell Castle
Born in Kansas in 1932, Wendell Castle received two degrees from the University of Kansas, one in industrial design in 1958 and the other in sculpture in 1961. He moved to Rochester, New York to teach at the School for American Crafts and established a permanent studio in the area that is still in operation today. He reinvented himself for nearly six decades.
