This pair of armchairs was designed by Brazilian artist Abraham Palatnik and produced by Arte Viva, the furniture company he co-founded with his brother in 1954. Trained both in art and engineering, Palatnik pioneered kinetic art with his “Kinechromatic Devices” and “Kinetic Objects” Known for his innovations in abstract painting and sculpture, Palatnik also created functional design. The armchairs feature a metallic structure, a new material he experimented with both with his furniture design and in his kinetic objects. In a similar manner to his sculptures and paintings, the geometric, linear pattern allows light and shadow to create additional compositions and an ever-changing visual experience.
