The rear-view mirror appears as a recurring motif punctuating Bruno Rousseaud's work. Supporting both narcissistic reflections and narratives, the sentence engraved on the mirrored surface balances meaning with performance.
The similarity between the features of these etchings and the use of a reflecting surface for the taking of psychotropic substances is evident. Moving towards emancipation through acceptance, the artwork tries to artificially take precedence over reality.
In I AM CLEAN, the mirror scarified by this highly evocative phrase is again an agent of ambiguity. The meaning it conveys muddies its original energy, highlighting, not without humour, the discrepancy between the aspirations of the individual and what he really is.
