Ignazio Gardella was a pioneer of Italian Rationalism, favoring geometry and functionality over ornamentation. This aesthetic is present in his buildings, furniture, and light fixtures alike. Drawing from technological and aesthetic advances established by the International Style, Gardella employed steel and glass to achieve his signature linear forms. This bookcase was designed during the 1980s and 1990s and was originally produced as a privately commissioned piece for Casa Coggi in Arenzano, Italy. The structure consists of bookcase shelves chaotically placed on chrome metal beams.
