"Designed by Joaquim Tenreiro in 1948, this set of chairs with undulated backrests was created as a private commission for a Sao Paulo family. Initially a set of ten chairs, only four remain. Carefully crafted, the minimal yet complex curves give the piece a particularly light aspect. The high, sinuous backrest offers a sophisticated profile that responds to the bent feet. The caned seat participates in the visual airiness and allows for ventilation propitious for the Brazilian tropical climate. Through materials and style, the chairs evoke the essence of Tenreiro designs, balancing traditional values and modern aesthetics.

Joaquim Tenreiro
Joaquim Tenreiro (1906-1992) is often referred to as the father of Brazilian modernism. The furniture designer was born in Portugal and moved to Rio de Janeiro in the late 1920s. In 1941, he received a commission to create furniture for a home designed by Oscar Niemeyer for the writer Francisco Inácio Peixoto. He designed modern furniture that fit the Brazilian style of life, often using native woods. He continued designing furniture until the late 1960s, when he then devoted himself to painting and sculpture.
