White Dahlia VI (2014) continues South African artist Kendell Geers activist and confrontational practice. The bulbs held by outstretched arms amalgamate religious references to the crucifixion and divine light, but the manacles on each wrist question the human realities of religious salvation. The lamp’s name and composition are also a tribute to the gruesome 1957 Black Dhalia murder case, that remains one of the U.S.’s most infamous unsolved crimes.
