Léa Mestres’ colourful artworks are palpably full of joy and emotion. The sculpture Suzy is made from crepi, a plaster widely used across France, that has left the artist with an enduring love of building façades found in states of disrepair. Mestres transposes this material into a new context, revitalising the material in her artworks to lend them strength. Their surfaces are covered in small bumps to reference the plaster brioche and eggs that adorn the outer walls of the Salvador Dalí museum in Figueras, Spain. Mestres’ unique style perfectly captures a similar architectural surrealism.

Léa Mestres

Léa Mestres is an experimental French artist who seeks to counter a design world that she sees as too serious and too male-dominated. She uses play, humour and whimsy as aesthetic devices to create colourful, anthropomorphic, larger-than-life sculptures that act as windows into the artist’s vivid imagination.
