Mathieu Lehanneur’s Ocean Memories series shapes planes of marble into trompe l’oeil waves, replicating the dynamism of ocean’s surface in carved and polished stone.
The composition of each piece is finely balanced between solid and seemingly liquid states. The artist is able to seamlessly render the marble at this point of transition using cutting edge 3D imaging technology. The green Guatemalan marble of the Acqua Alta GT stool contains a high density of mineral variations in the stone, abstractly envisioning the way light fractures beneath the ocean’s surface.
