The New Paintings series is a fusion of what Robert Stadler terms 'aristocratic and vulgar design'; the clash of the highly technical with the rudimentary. Stadler modernises and simplifies the traditional pietre dure technique, which was historically used to intricately inlay top class furniture with precious stones. The broad swathes of colour rendered in various marbles across the table top, however, are shaped on the Photoshop brush tool's characteristic outline, resulting in an artwork that bridges the gap between classic and contemporary design.
