Since 1999 when he first began making his ceramic artworks, Roger Herman has taken ceramics in an utterly new direction, bringing the same originality to the process as he did to painting in the 1980s. The artist has admitted that as a viewer he never saw value in ceramics; that was until he approached the material from a painterly perspective.
Far more concerned with form than function, his bowls, plates and vases resonate with both the energy of his originality as well as the depth of his creative experience.
