In their Vanitas of Life collection, the Verhoeven Twins push modern technological limits to combine the fantastical with the practical.
The Verhoeven Twins settled on the bubble motif after seeing Soap Bubbles (1734), a painting by the 18th century French artist Chardin. Then, as now, bubbles allude to the transience of life, a reminder of our fragile mortality.
The work is about moments of happiness, and the artists’ longing to recapture the inertia of childhood wonder.

Verhoeven Twins
Joep and Jeroen Verhoeven (both born in 1976) live and work in Amsterdam. Known collectively as the Verhoeven Twins, their practice combines the fantastic with the practical: function and form transformed into mystical narratives, where the feather-light impressions of dreams become objects to see, touch, and use in everyday life.
