The shattered forms of Vincent Dubourg’s cabinets draw inspiration as much from the forces of nature as from Dubourg’s specialist knowledge of traditional craft and cabinet making techniques.

The densely textured bronze sheets of The Earth on a Snake resemble the rough surface of the earth, torn apart by tectonic activity. The gaps between each plate reveal the cabinet’s interior, but are carefully placed so as not to impede the cabinet’s function. Their disjointed composition represents the impact of human behaviour on the environment, as artist Vincent Dubourg channels natural forces into his work to update traditional furniture forms. He pays homage to the furniture of the past, while making something completely contemporary.

Vincent Dubourg

Dubourg poetically fuses the crafts of glassblowing, wood-bending, and metal-casting to bring simple forms to life. In Napoleon A Trotinette, the solid form of a bureau is harmoniously combined with the graceful curves of bronze branches.
