Vincenzo de Cotiis’ collection Archaeology of Consciousness reimagines the Renaissance sculptural ideal of the arch. Pieces like DC2323 deconstruct and deform the venerated notion of an arch as a perfectly conceived structure, prioritising a strong sculptural presence above symmetry and balance. The work is made from black onyx and reclaimed fibreglass layered together to expose material variations, with a hand-painted finish imbuing the work with an artificial history and constructing it as a contemporary ruin.
