Wendell Castle combined the worlds of sculpture and design at a time when hand-crafted furniture followed strictly traditional rules.

His unconventional forms injected vitality into the American design scene. Acclaim at Milan’s 1964 Triennale cemented Castle’s success worldwide. Testament to his artistic longevity, half a century later Castle was still making unique sculptural forms, such as Big D, a single capacious seat carved from ash and stained black.
