This dining table was designed by Wendell Castle in 1974. The artist always sought to combine sculpture and furniture. He uses a particular wood technique which is called 'bent lamination'. Castle glued multiple wooden planks together in layers and then carved into the stacked forms, creating subtle and elegant forms from compacted material. He focussed on keeping an organic form and a natural material tone. This dining table presents a soft, smooth shape together with a dynamic wooden pattern.

Wendell Castle
Born in Kansas in 1932, Wendell Castle received two degrees from the University of Kansas, one in industrial design in 1958 and the other in sculpture in 1961. He moved to Rochester, New York to teach at the School for American Crafts and established a permanent studio in the area that is still in operation today. He reinvented himself for nearly six decades.
