Wendell Castle’s ash sculpture Long Afternoon features three tapering, conical spires reaching upwards at different angles, providing the framework for a tabletop held against two of them. The table is supported from below by the extended, sloping base of a seat that emerges from the side of the structure. Combining angles, flat surfaces and organic shapes, the piece exemplifies Castle’s attention to volume, form and movement.
