Stone & Steel_Yo Circle is part of Stone & Steel, a series of 10 works by the South-Korean artist Wonmin Park. A continuation of his previous series Plain Cuts, which uses aluminium sheets to create geometric shapes and cut-outs, Stone & Steel instead features organic forms made of volcanic stone and steel. Steel Yo Circle was handcrafted in Japan and, when naming the piece, Park was inspired by a conversation he had about Isamu Noguchi and his relationship with his mother, Léonie Gilmour. Noguchi, the acclaimed sculptor recognised for his abstract shapes largely made of stone, was referred to as Yo – a nickname given by his family, which alludes to the spirit of his father and writer Yone Noguchi.

Wonmin Park
Wonmin Park was born in 1982 in Seoul, South Korea. After graduating from the Design Academy, in Eindhoven in 2011, Park worked with a series of prestigious design companies in the Netherlands before establishing Studio Wonmin Park in 2012. He later established a production facility in Rotterdam and a creative studio in Paris.
