Martin Székely has been working at the forefront of the international design scene for decades, with artworks that cut straight to the essential nature of both object and material. His manner of working tends beyond the realms of minimalism.
He is instead led by the innate characteristics of his chosen materials, producing works that exemplify what he calls their ‘hard stones’, in reference to aspects of each material that are impossible to counteract, dilute or hide. These material truths are revealed throughout his singular oeuvre, whereby through a process of reduction, extraneous detail is stripped away from each piece and results in artworks bound in objectivity.
In Székely’s mind, function is an aspect inseparable from the object, which he expresses materially in the simplest of terms.
The artists lives and works in Paris, where his work is included in the collections of the Centre George Pompidou, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, and Collection de l’Histoire du Louvre, as well as in many more prestigious collections worldwide.
