Jean Royère

Jean Royère ( 1902–1981) was a French furniture and interior designer. Born to a distinguished family, he resigned aged 29 from a banking job to pursue design full time.

Artist Biography

Royére went on to win a contest to design the brasserie for the Carlton Hotel on the Champs Elysée in Paris, and soon after opened his own company in 1944. He continued to design for many high-end clients such as the Shah of Iran until his death in 1981. His work was often considered eccentric with unusual shapes and vibrant colours, as seen in his furry armchairs.
