Their motto “If you can design one thing you can design anything” drove the couple’s interdisciplinary approach to design. Their achievements include organising Knoll International’s exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1972. Their use of the Helvetica typeface in the visual design of the New York subway map soon led it to become their trademark.
Massimo & Lella Vignelli
Lella Vignelli (1934-2016) and Massimo Vignelli (1931-2014) were Italian designers and a married couple. In 1960, they founded Studio Vignellis, a design and architecture studio.
