Sylvain Rieu-Piquet

Sylvain Rieu-Piquet is a Paris-based designer whose work encapsulates the essence of natural elements, with mineral, vegetal, aquatic and animal worlds colliding to produce hybrid, intense and brooding works of art. With their soft, liquid curves and free, sensual vision of nature, Rieu-Piquet's collections of jewellery and ceramics invite viewers into an intimate dialogue with nature, emotion and the human body.

Artist Biography

Born in Carcassonne, southern France, Rieu-Piquet studied at ENSCI–Les Ateliers design school in Paris before working at practices such as Eliumstudio and Starck. Beyond his background in design, Rieu-Piquet now has a vast scope of artistic activities to his name, including ceramic works, jewellery design and large-scale drawings, always led by his fascination for organic shapes and materials.

Rieu-Piquet's drawings focus on the growth of living things, featuring tree-like shapes and flowing movements that spread across large surfaces, resembling wild vegetation. The artist's exquisite jewellery collections include rings, bracelets and pendants crafted from materials like brass, bronze, silver and gold, adorned with gemstones including sapphires, rubies and garnets. Clay is also one of Rieu-Piquet's preferred mediums, fitting perfectly with his fascination for organic shapes and materials and allowing him to convey nature both at its roughest and finest.

Rieu-Piquet has been featured in exhibitions by Noguchi Museum, Centre National des Arts Plastiques, Centre des Monuments Nationaux, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Noguchi Museum and others. His works are found in permanent collections of institutions including Centre National des Arts Plastiques, Noguchi Museum and Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie.
