EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Carpenters Workshop Gallery have partnered with the historical auction house, Christie’s, to launch a new pop-up space in the Hamptons, which opens on 14th August 2021. The goal of this collaboration is to continue questioning the conceptual underpinnings of our understanding of design and the visual arts. Loïc Le Gaillard, the co-founder of Carpenters Workshop Gallery, explained, “In showcasing important works of functional art and collectable design alongside seminal paintings from Christie’s we hope to contribute to the evolving dialogue and blurred boundaries between art and design.” Artists featured include works by Nacho Carbonell, Aldo Bakker, Vincent Dubourg, Roger Herman, Wendell Castle, Atelier Van Lieshout, Kendell Geers, DRIFT, Robert Stadler, Pierre Jeanneret and Mathieu Lehanneur.
The location for this pop-up was carefully chosen. Sara Friedlander, Deputy Chairman, of Post-War and Contemporary Art, said: “The East End has long been an important destination for artists and collectors alike. Christie’s is honoured to be part of such a thriving gallery community in the Hamptons and we look forward to an exciting summer of programming with our specialist team and friends in the region.” Le Galliard added, “We are thrilled to be featured in one of Christie’s seasonal spaces and to join the growing artistic community in the Hamptons.”
