Deeply influenced by her family’s migration from Iraq to the United States, Maryam Turkey invests her hand-crafted architectural sculptures with the soul of her surroundings. Perhaps best embodying this notion is “Between Rise and Fall,” a new series of paper-pulp lights and objects that at once evoke vacant buildings in Baghdad, the eerie silence of pandemic-era Manhattan, and our state of emotional flux as we make sense of it all.
