Robert Stadler You May Also Like

Born in 1966 in Vienna, Robert Stadler creates surreal and distorted objects that play with the very fundamentals of design. ‘You May Also Like’, based on the exhibition of the same name at Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau, Dresden, saw Stadler interweave a selection of twenty masterpieces and unattributed artefacts from the museum’s collection amongst his own work. Together the combination of objects formed a cross-historical “community of objects” in which new meanings were forged. The title of the book critically examines the definition of an individual’s online identity today – the creation of a profile and the accumulation of likes linked to it. By reflecting on the nature of our postmodern, technological world and its relationship to the utopian aspirations of design, Stadler creatively dissects the culture of “indifference and desire” that so often characterises modern life.
