Maarten Baas CLAY BENCH

These vibrant Benches are from Maarten Baas’s iconic ‘Clay’ collection launched in 2006. The idiosyncratic childishness of this collection is created through Baas’s individual hand modelling of industrial clay around each metal skeleton. The vibrant colours, texture and irregularity of form unique to each piece give the benches their naïve and spontaneous finish. Baas’s technique gives way for the artists process to lay bare on the finished work, adding a sense of intimacy and originality through his handling visible on each finished object. Pieces from the Clay collection are present in museum collections such as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Les Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
