Maarten Baas CLAY SIDE TABLE

These vibrant tables are from Maarten Baas’s iconic ‘Clay’ collection launched in 2006. The idiosyncratic childishness of this collection is created through Baas’s individual hand modelling of industrial clay around metal structures. The vibrant colours, texture and irregularity of form unique to each piece give the tables a naïve and spontaneous finish, with the exaggerated curvature of the spider-like legs adding an element of humour to their functionality. Pieces from the Clay collection are present in museum collections such as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Les Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
