Throughout the exhibition Seeing Things, Gareth Mason explores triggers of aesthetic arousal. Visual dichotomies, as seen in the double-sided nature of Inkwell, sustain wordless associations to our ways of seeing, and of being. Clear aesthetic signs can be interpreted in endless ways. It is here the ‘art’ happens, in the silent strand of communication between object and observer.
Artist

Gareth Mason
Gareth Mason is a British artist who, over his four-decade career, has consistently resisted the temptations of ceramic art’s conventions – particularly those surrounding the perceived purity of porcelain. Entangling irreverence and material risk with respect for ceramics history, Mason’s pots carry tensions and incompatibilities that defy straightforward resolution.
