Striato Olimpico

138 x 34 x 96 cm
54.3 x 13.4 x 37.8 in

The title stands for 3-dimensional Pietra Dura. The classical Pietra Dura artist often chose a marble's pattern to represent various figurative elements such as a dramatic sky, the roof of a house, or a waterfall. Besides a few exceptions made as bas reliefs, these compositions mostly took on the form of flat panels. For each piece of the 3DPD collection, a block of Olimpico Striato marble was carved in such a way as to reveal the transition of the stone's veins from wavy to straight.
