Standing at over two meters in height, Sheik Zayed Road by Léa Mestres is part of a series that explores the use of mosaic tiles. For this large standing lamp, the mosaics are employed to create a pale-coloured sculpture of cream and white shades, contrasting with the other brighter works in the collection. The piece is named after one of the main highways of Dubai, where the artist was able to observe an urban landscape of striking skyscrapers just minutes from the sandy desert.
Artist

Léa Mestres
Léa Mestres is an experimental French artist who seeks to counter a design world that she sees as too serious and too male-dominated. She uses play, humour and whimsy as aesthetic devices to create colourful, anthropomorphic, larger-than-life sculptures that act as windows into the artist’s vivid imagination.
