The title stands for 3 dimensional Pietra Dura. The classical Pietra Dura artist often chose a marble's pattern to represent various figurative elements such as a dramatic sky, the roof of a house or a waterfall. Besides a few exceptions made as bas relief's, these compositions mostly took on the form of flat panels. For each pieces of the 3 DPD collection, a block of Olimpo Striato Marble is carved in order to reveal the transition of the stone's wavy veins to its perfectly straight and parallel lines thus producing a truly 3 dimensional object.
