Vincenzo De Cotiis’ DC1740A Coffee Table rejects symmetry and instead is freed in space, unbound by geometry. It evokes a sensory experience through illusion, layering cast brass and Pink Brazilian Granite.
Vincenzo de Cotiis imbues his artworks with artificial histories, working their surfaces with hand-finished patinas and mark-making in a way that creates a traceable narrative between object and creator. The cast brass bears such marks, as De Cotiis uses the material to look into the past - at historic sensibilities towards the metal both as a functional and decorative element - whilst projecting the artwork into the future as an anthropological symbol.
