HARRY NURIEV

Exhibition Statement

Using the iconic fabric as his canvas, Harry Nuriev uses this exhibition to reinvent denim.

Denim is a constitutive part of history of fashion and Nuriev brings this history to his art. His driving ethos is to combine the worlds of art, design, and fashion.

“I am dressing furniture and spaces” - Harry Nuriev

Nuriev continues to explore his concept of Transformism, which consists of reinterpreting everyday objects to renew their beauty. This series of deliberately hybrid pieces questions how we relate to furniture and revisits our relationships to everyday objects.

For Denim, Harry Nuriev was given free rein to take over the ground floor of Carpenters’ Parisian gallery with a set of artworks designed specifically for the space. The artist recreates an apartment by designing micro-environments. The collection was conceived as a modular system, composed of several dissociated and interchangeable elements that form a matrix.

These hybrid pieces are designed to adapt to the way we spend time indoors, which has been considerably transformed by the last few years. Take Sofa Pool, a heterogenous space where one can eat, work, or rest. Far more than a simple piece of furniture, it is conceived as a functional extension of ourselves able to satisfy many of our domestic needs. As both a table and a sofa, there is no interruption when moving from one to another, allowing for deeper conversations and connection between users. Nuriev places importance on design centered on human needs, capable of influencing behaviour for the better.

Denim is Harry Nuriev’s first solo show under the representation of Carpenters Workshop Gallery and is organised in collaboration with Aurélie Julien Collectible. With this project, the gallery continues to support the design of the future.
