EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Carpenters Workshop Gallery Paris presents the group show Artist Highlights, showcasing significant works of contemporary collectible design.
The exhibition opens with CL Chapon, a bronze light sculpture by Frederik Molenschot. The Dutch artist’s monumental piece engulfs its environment, its scale and weight mirroring the physicality needed to shape its bronze convolutions.
Virgil Abloh is also exhibited, whose Alaska Chair chair appears to be sinking into the ground. The acclaimed designer created his bronze Acqua Alta series to be first shown in Venice, referencing the dire state of the city’s battle against rising sea levels. As the series continues to be exhibited worldwide, its message is intended to become increasingly potent.
An installation by DRIFT in the Paris gallery’s project room is included as part of the exhibition. The room is filled with the Dutch studio’s Fragile Future light sculptures, intricate combinations of dandelion flowers affixed to copper lattice frames. The installation opens concurrently with the display of DRIFT’s Flightlight at the Centre Pompidou, as the studio continue to impress since their acclaimed show at The Shed, New York, last year.
The exhibition also includes artists Nacho Carbonell, Maarten Baas, Ingrid Donat, Vincenzo De Cotiis, Robert Stadler, Andrea Branzi, and Rick Owens.
