EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Featured for the first time are designs from Batten and Kamp, crafted as a collaboration with Carpenters Workshop Gallery. Batten and Kamp, a New Zealand-born and Paris-based art and design practice founded by Alexandra Batten and Daniel Kamp, whose work is evoked by memories from their upbringing in the natural landscapes of New Zealand and bustling metropolis of Hong Kong. The pair is showing the Titan Lounger – Ash (2023), a minimalist sculpture crafted from recycled acrylic and ebano nero marble, exuding history and organicity through its rugged composition and sharp, silhouette. Alongside the dark lounger is the duo’s Titan Lounger – Ice (2023) crafted from recycled acrylic and aurazina marble, a composition chosen for its grey tones to directly contrast the Ash lounger.
Also featured in the presentation is Vincenzo De Cotiis’ DC2322 (2023) table, crafted from white bronze, black onyx and hand-painted recycled fibreglass. The artwork emphasises the artist’s meticulous craftsmanship through its linear composition and monolithic scale. The absence of extraneous elements contributes to the table’s purity, showcasing the artist’s commitment to a refined and pristine artistic expression. Another highlight is Aki+Arnaud’s Ishigaki lamps, inspired by Arnaud’s freediving experiences off the coast of Ishigaki Island. The lamps’ metal and epoxy-carbon base support a bamboo stem and a fixed linen lampshade. Light is projected upwards from the lampshade, producing a mesmerising shadow on the ceiling, representing the small circle of sunlight on the ocean’s surface as viewed from many metres underwater.
