Ane Christensen CRUMBLING BOWL
Edition of 8 plus 4 AP
2020
Black Patinated Copper
This black copper bowl is part of Ane Christensen’s series ‘Crumbling’. This series explores the contrast between solid form and the area of delicate transparency within it. The repetitive spread of the surface punctures creates a playful dispersion of both light and weight. All of the works in the ‘Crumbling’ collection are hand pierced by Christensen. This 23cm bowl is a counterpart to Christensen's Double Crumbling bowl, also available through the Workshop Shop.
Ane Christensen grew up in Copenhagen and moved to London in 1993 to study a HND (Jewellery Design) at Sir John Cass Faculty of Art. She went on to work as an assistant for two designer silversmiths and completed her MA (Metalwork & Silversmithing) at the Royal College of Art, before establishing her practise in 1999. Her work is represented in several major museum collections including Victoria and Albert Museum, The Crafts Council UK, Koldinghus Museum DK, Museum for Decorative Art DK and the Goldsmiths’ Company.

Ane Christensen
Ane Christensen’s metalwork explores the boundaries between functionality and sculptural form. Most of her work is the result of applying a strict set of rules through out her design and work process. She finds inspiration in the restrictive work process itself and the challenge to stretch its limitations. The starting point for all her pieces is the simple geometry of sheet metal and spun forms, which she deconstructs using techniques such as piercing, soldering and hand-forming.
