Alvar Aalto (1898 – 1976) was an architect and interior designer from Finland. Aalto’s early work was influenced by Nordic Classicism, as evidenced by his first public structure, the Jyväskylä Workers’ Club. His humanist architecture, displayed at the Finnish pavilion of the 1939 World Fair in New York, placed him at the forefront of the modernist architectural scene. He contributed significantly to furniture design, with his stools notably used in Apple stores worldwide.
