Engraved cameo rings are some of the oldest forms of portraiture, but artist Cindy Sherman appropriates the classical medium as a means to express her own iconoclastic female characters.
Spa Ring displays a self-portrait of Sherman, engraved in sardonyx shell and augmented by five cultured pearls and 18-carat gold fixtures. The portrait is based on digitally altered images posted to Sherman’s Instagram account, warping the artist’s face, manipulating herself as the object of her art.
The ring is hand-carved by Italian artisans, and produced by acclaimed jewellery house LIZWORKS, who have collaborated with leading artists such as Sherman since 2014. The edition of 30 is exclusive to Carpenters Workshop Jewellery.
