Rick Owen’s 2 Prong Bench is a definitive example of his monolithic furniture designs. The acclaimed designer is known for his glamour-meets-grunge aesthetic, always playing his wit and wickedness against each other. The dark basalt stone gives an uncanny charisma to the artwork, but is softened by the custom made cushions.

Even though Owens now lives and works in Paris, his signature aesthetic was born in Los Angeles when he began to make bespoke furniture for his bunker style loft, amalgamating many modernist influences with his own provocative tastes.

Artist

Rick Owens

Rick Owens grew up in Porterville, a small town in California’s San Joaquin valley. Drawn to pre-gentrified Hollywood and L.A.’s punk underground in the 80s, Owens studied painting at what is now Otis College of Art and Design. He then switched to Los Angeles Trade Technical-College to learn pattern-making and draping.
