Acclaimed designer and artist Rick Owens combines a clean-cut oak frame with an extravagant moose antler to form his Tomb Chair. The contrast of geometries is striking, and each component highlights the natural qualities of the other.
Through his choice of subtle and rare materials, Owens highlights the beauty of nature, and confirms his personal taste for monochrome compositions.
Well-versed in art history, Owens’ influences range from Brutalism to Arte Povera, also covering minimalists like Carl Andre or the experiential art of Joseph Beuys. The multi-facets of modernism are all amalgamated and processed through Owens’ work, resulting in artworks that bridge sculpture and design, always with a confrontational edge.

Rick Owens
Rick Owens grew up in Porterville, a small town in California’s San Joaquin valley. Drawn to pre-gentrified Hollywood and L.A.’s punk underground in the 80s, Owens studied painting at what is now Otis College of Art and Design. He then switched to Los Angeles Trade Technical-College to learn pattern-making and draping.
