Michèle Lamy & Loree Rodkin

Michèle Lamy (b. Jura France) eludes simple categorisation. She is an entrepreneur and producer, collaborator and performer, wife and business partner to Rick Owens with whom she has built an empire, Owenscorp. Lamy occupies a unique place within culture, enjoying iconic status in both the fashion and art worlds.

Arist Biography

On a daily basis, Lamy functions as the producer of the RO furniture collection, working closely with the artisans in the construction process as well as directing the positioning and presentation of the works, including shows at The Musée D’Art Moderne de la ville de Paris and MOCA LA. In 2014 Lamy created ‘LAMYLAND’, an umbrella term for her independent creative projects and endeavours, bringing together all the key elements integral to her practice – experimentation, collaboration, storytelling and creation. In a sense it is a natural progression to her renowned Les Deux Cafe, the LA cabaret spot she founded, curated and ran for many years. LAMYLAND is a cultural movement: often at its core, is an architectural instillation that functions as a communal gathering space for performances, social engagement and contemplation.

In 2017, Lamy formed the conceptual band, LAVASCAR, with the artist Nico Vascellari and her daughter Scarlett Rouge. They have released two albums, with lyrics derived from the poetry of Langston Hughes and Etal Adnan respectively, and have been invited to perform at both the Pompidou in Paris and the Triennale in Milan.

Loree Rodkin (American, 1949) was raised on a heavy diet of aesthetics. Her three careers have ranged from designing the homes of rock stars, Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart amongst a host of other rock glitterati. She then became a talent manager, launching the careers of young unknowns —Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker to name just a few. Loree’s passion for making jewellery landed her Elizabeth Taylor as her first client. Since those early days Rodkin has gone on to design intricate pieces for such icons as Madonna, Steven Tyler, Elton John, Cher (her best friend) and countless others. She also had the honour of designing First Lady Michelle Obama’s inaugural jewellery (20th January, 2009); those pieces now reside in the Smithsonian’s permanent collection.

Rodkin’s attention to detail is what you notice first in her handmade couture pieces. Her unique use of diamonds, platinum, gold and precious stones are inspired by her world travels. Today, many of Loree’s forward-thinking designs encompass her growing fine jewellery business empire that has expanded to fragrance, handbags and eye couture.
